On Sunday, September 19, we heard from amazing local Native American leaders about the history of Indigenous children taken from their families and forced into more than 350 U.S. Indian boarding schools. Stacey Montooth gave a presentation about the Stewart Indian School’s history in Carson City, while Mercedes Krause and Cheryl Wapes’a-Mayes told us about their families’ histories with the boarding schools, as well as their activism in Native American communities.
If you would like to watch a video of the full meeting, a recording is available here.
