Mandatory Waiting Periods / Mandatory Counseling

Nevada NOW feels that women are capable of making informed choices without the need of a mandatory waiting period, and that such laws are more than a little condescending.  Laws that require mandatory counseling have been implemented in states with the help of anti-choice activists.  “Counseling” implies that abortion is a traumatic experience, which it is not (see Planned Parenthood).   Mandatory counseling is often used as a way to give miss-information about abortion or to manipulate a woman into giving birth to a baby that she does not want..
